The Association of Companies with High Energy Consumption (AEGE) indicates in its barometer that the electricity bill borne by an electro-intensive consumer in Spain is 44% higher than in France and is 12% above that of Germany.
According to these figures, the final price of electricity for large industry in Spain at the end of August reached 88.63 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), compared to 61.65 euros/MWh in France and 79.1 euros/MWh in Germany, which is equivalent to 1.4 times and 1.12 times more, respectively.
AEGE emphasized that large Spanish electric consumers incur additional costs for system adjustment services that are not applied in France or Germany, which widens the competitive disadvantage by more than 20 euros/MWh.
Likewise, the association highlighted that the compensations for indirect CO2 that electro-intensive industries receive in Germany are much higher than those received by the Spanish industry, conditioned by the lack of available budget.
In this regard, AEGE calculated that in the German market, compensations to electro-intensive industries exceed those in Spain by a total of 21 euros/MWh.
