Residents in Spain carried out a total of 18.7 million tourist trips in July, which represents a decrease of 0.6% compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the new Advanced Estimator of the Resident Tourism Survey (ETR) released this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The INE indicates that, in the months of July of the years for which definitive results of the ETR are available, the volume of trips has been registering a downward trend in recent years, a dynamic that, according to the advanced estimator, would continue in July 2026.
The statistical agency emphasizes that the results of the new estimator can later be contrasted with the definitive data of the ETR in order to assess its predictive capacity.
Specifically, between January 2025 and March 2026, the average difference between the advanced data and the definitive was 309,444 trips, equivalent to 2.2% of the estimated number of trips. The Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) during that period was also at 2.2%.
The data released this Monday is provisional and will be revised when the definitive results for the corresponding quarter are published.
The definitive data for April, May, and June 2026 will be published on September 24, while those for July, August, and September will be released on December 21.
