The Consellería do Medio Rural plans to declare the modernization and expansion project of Bodegas Martín Códax facilities, located in the Pontevedra municipality of Cambados, of regional interest.

According to the details in the agreement project that will be submitted for approval by the Consello de la Xunta this Monday, the purpose of this action is to adapt the size of the winery to the productive capacity of its winegrowers, aligning the infrastructures with the actual volume of grapes they manage.

The designed intervention will extend over more than 47,000 square meters and is set to strengthen the activity of the cooperative, thanks to an investment of 18.6 million euros, which will allow the creation of around twenty new direct jobs.

Among the main improvements is the increase in storage space in the logistics area, as well as a reinforcement of the capacity to supply bulk wine and the capacity for production during the harvest, both in tanks and in grape reception and pressing areas.

The plan also includes the establishment of new areas for wine tourism, with the possibility of incorporating a restaurant service, along with the expansion of offices and common spaces for the cooperative staff.

The update and expansion of the Bodegas Martín Códax facilities will make it possible to increase the productive capacity of this cooperative entity, which plays a relevant role in the production of wines protected by designations of origin, with special weight in that of Rías Baixas.

The development of the project will bring more employment associated with the increase in production, with a positive impact also for the producer members integrated into the cooperative or who maintain collaboration agreements with it.

The cooperative Bodegas Martín Códax is made up of 332 winegrowers who cultivate around 325 hectares of vineyard. In addition, there is the purchase of grapes from collaborating winegrowers, which amounts to about 135.

It currently has an installed capacity of over 83,400 hectoliters, a volume that will increase once the adaptation and expansion project is executed. Its viticultural activity is spread across all the municipalities of the Val do Salnés subzone, within the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin, and for years it has also extended to other Galician denominations of origin --Monterrei and Ribeiro-- and to a wine region outside Galicia --Bierzo--.
