United Arab Emirates (UAE) has committed to channeling an investment of 40 billion euros in Germany, aimed at artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives, energy projects, and the defense sector, as part of the strategy to strengthen its ties with the European continent.
"These 40 billion are just the beginning. We are going to seek the great opportunities that will take this relationship to the next level," explained the Emirati Minister of Foreign Trade, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, during an interview granted to "Bloomberg."
This bet aims to "reaffirm the long-standing relationship and historical collaboration" between both countries. According to the Emirati official, 10 billion will be specifically directed to the state of Bavaria, while the rest of the capital will be distributed as specific areas of cooperation arise. Currently, the Asian country already has investments worth 34 billion in German territory.
The development of data centers and AI-based solutions constitutes one of the central axes of the United Arab Emirates' roadmap to diversify its economy and expand its geopolitical weight. At the same time, improving defense alliances with partners other than Washington has gained increasing importance since the outbreak of the Iran war.
