EH Bildu has registered in the Basque Parliament the request for the appearance of both the Minister of Health, Alberto Martínez, and the director of Osakidetza, Lorea Bilbao, with the aim of detailing "what measures they have adopted after several nurses from Bilbao accused a doctor of sexual harassment."
In a note sent to the media, the coalition echoes the information disseminated this Friday by a newspaper, according to which Osakidetza would not have acted against the accused physician and, on the contrary, "has promoted him to a position in its General Directorate, something that is very difficult to understand when the accusations against him are so serious."
The EH Bildu parliamentarian Rebeka Ubera has reminded that for months she has been demanding explanations on this matter, but that, to date, the responses offered by the Minister of Health have been "superficial," avoiding providing concrete data on the actions taken.
"In any case, what we know is that in Osakidetza a doctor has sexually assaulted several nurses, according to their reports, and that this doctor continues to work, despite everything, in Osakidetza, now in its General Directorate. Apparently, no disciplinary file has been opened against him and no measures have been taken against him. If this is the case, and it seems that it is, it is evident that the protocol used by Osakidetza in cases of sexual harassment is ineffective, because it leaves the victims unprotected and revictimizes them," reproached the representative of EH Bildu.
