The PSOE deputy in the Assembly of Extremadura, Aitor Vaquerizo, has denounced the "absence" of "serious" economic policies in the community, which, he has emphasized, is currently the one that "creates the least employment."

Vaquerizo has pointed out that the unemployment figures recorded in September confirm the warnings that the socialists have been making in recent months, since, "while in Spain employment is being created, in Extremadura it is being destroyed."

In this regard, he recalled that the number of unemployed registered in the public employment service offices increased by 1,120 people in September compared to August, reaching 61,807 unemployed in the region.

The socialist parliamentarian has also focused on youth unemployment, which has yielded an "alarming" figure, with 5,218 young people losing their jobs in Extremadura during the month of September.

He added that, when comparing this figure with the data from September 2025, "youth unemployment in Extremadura has only decreased by four people," which, in his opinion, reflects the seriousness of the situation faced by this group.

In his appearance before the media, Vaquerizo also highlighted that it is the industry that leads the increase in unemployment, while, by educational level, the highest increase in unemployment occurs among people with vocational training qualifications.

"Extremadura, as I was saying, is the autonomous community that creates the least employment. We are at the tail end of our country. And look, the worst part is not that the present is dark. The worst part is that in the future, according to the registered unemployment data and the latest EPA we have known, this is alarming," the regional deputy stated.

In addition, he referred to a report recently released by BBVA which indicates that Extremadura will be the region with the lowest economic growth in the country, mainly due to the evolution of employment.

In light of this scenario, Aitor Vaquerizo has criticized that there is a "lazy government that is not capable of generating employment" and has called for a debate on the "lack of opportunities" that especially affects the young population and access to housing.

"It is the time to make a deep reflection to respond to these lack of opportunities in the region," he emphasized, recalling that last Thursday the general secretary of the PSOE of Extremadura, Álvaro Sánchez Cotrina, announced a proposal for a regional housing pact.

As he explained, this pact would have "as a future Extremadura" and would aim to guarantee the opportunities that, in his opinion, young people and families deserve, incorporating the participation of all social and economic agents of the territory.

"Whoever does not understand that right now the biggest or one of the biggest social problems that the region and our society has is housing, is not understanding what is happening in this country," Vaquerizo stressed.
