The police fired rubber bullets this Saturday night against far-right groups attempting to reach the Puerta del Sol, where the camp for the right to housing remains.
The groups had gathered during the afternoon on Alcalá street, at the height of the Bank of Spain, before trying to move towards Sol. The confrontations with the agents occurred in the Carrera de San Jerónimo and the Canalejas square.
At the time of this update, the members of the ultra groups remained in Canalejas and a large police presence was trying to surround them.
A device to prevent confrontations near the camp
The possibility of incidents was among the concerns of the security operation this Saturday. Vozpópuli had reported in the morning about a planned deployment of about 500 riot police in response to a call called Indignados por España, supported by far-right groups such as Núcleo Nacional and Democracia Nacional.
According to that outlet, one of the objectives of the Police Intervention Units was to prevent confrontations between those attending that call and the participants in the Sol camp.
The nighttime incidents, different from the housing demonstration
The confrontations occurred hours after the mobilization for housing that took place in Madrid. The midday march, organized in four columns that converged in Cibeles, took place without incidents.
The Government Delegation estimated that protest at 70,000 attendees, while the Tenants' Union raised the estimate to 500,000.
