Ukraine reported this Saturday the death of a sailor following a Russian attack on a civilian merchant ship in a port in the Odesa region, an offensive that also caused three more injuries.

The Ukrainian Maritime Ports Administration has indicated that the target was a Liberian-flagged cargo ship and that the impact forced the immediate evacuation of 13 crew members.

"This is another selective attack by the Russian Federation against civilian navigation. Russia continues to terrorize the peaceful merchant fleet and the sailors who risk their lives daily for the operation of Ukrainian maritime routes," the Ukrainian entity has denounced.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense has acknowledged an operation in the port of Odesa against "ships supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine." According to their version, a drone struck a cargo ship that was transporting military material to Ukraine.
