The Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, will not have to appear before the Parliament to detail the reasons for the replacement of the former director general of Coasts and Coastline, Maria Joaquina Ferrer.
PP and Vox have announced that this Thursday they will vote against, in the Permanent Deputation, the initiative of the opposition groups that demanded Lafuente's presence in the Chamber to explain the dismissal of Ferrer, her replacement by the current director, Joan Jaume, and the letter of support signed by about twenty public employees from the area.
After the Board of Spokespersons, the spokesperson for the PP in the Parliament, Sebastià Sagreras, described the situation as "unusual," recalling that in previous legislatures there were also changes in the general directorates without requiring the appearance of the affected ministers.
He insisted that a general directorate is a freely appointed position and that Lafuente considered it "appropriate" that, in the area of Coasts, a "municipalist" profile was favored, expressing his "surprise" at the request for him to appear before the Parliament.
From the PSIB, the deputy spokesperson in the Chamber, Marc Pons, stated that Ferrer's dismissal would have occurred for "not responding" to Lafuente's instructions and linked it, in particular, to the processing of concessions for sunbeds and umbrellas on the beaches of Formentera.
For her part, the spokesperson for Vox in the Parliament, Manuela Cañadas, defended her group's rejection of the appearance, arguing that it would be a "smokescreen" from the PSIB and the left to "entangle."
Finally, the deputy of Més per Menorca, Josep Castells, interpreted that this whole episode would show that Lafuente "does not have control" over his Ministry, given that while he "would dictate" the resolutions, the department "goes in another direction."
