Álvaro Vargas Llosa, son of the Nobel Prize in Literature Mario Vargas Llosa, has been appointed to assume the Embassy of Peru in the United States at the proposal of President Keiko Fujimori, who has expressed her confidence that he will carry out his work as a diplomatic representative in Washington successfully.

"He has been consulted. He has accepted this invitation," the Peruvian president informed in an interview on the television network RPP. "I believe that Álvaro Vargas Llosa is going to be a great ambassador of Peru in the United States," she assessed, although she specified that the authorities are still pending the completion of the necessary procedures for his official appointment.

Fujimori emphasized that Vargas Llosa has "a lot of experience" and that he will be able to "raise even more" the quality of the bilateral ties between both countries.

The writer and journalist has had an active presence in Peruvian politics supporting various candidates in the last electoral events, although he aligned with Fujimori both in the presidential elections of 2021 and in those held last spring, in which the far-right candidate won by a narrow margin of 50,000 votes against the leftist candidate, Roberto Sánchez.
