The National Directorate of Migrations (DNM) of Argentina has ratified that the former Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and his family entered Argentine territory on Tuesday night through the province of Misiones, from where they boarded shortly after a private plane headed to the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil.
According to the note released by the Argentine migration agency, Flávio Bolsonaro crossed the border at 10:50 PM (local time) through the Tancredo Neves International Bridge —which connects the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu with the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazú— along with Fernanda Antunes Figueira Bolsonaro, Carolina Figueira Bolsonaro, and Luiza Figueira Bolsonaro.
The authorities have specified that the entry occurred "without incidents," since all members of the group presented "valid travel documentation without any legal impediment for entry into the country." Just 40 minutes later, at 11:30 PM (local time), the family boarded a private flight operated by the company Baires Fly S.A. bound for Guayaquil, as stated in the flight plan.
Stop in Ecuador before his attempt at exile in the United States
Although the flight plan from Argentina listed Guayaquil as the destination, Brazilian deputy Mauricio Marcon, from the Liberal Party, stated that the former candidate was seeking "to exile himself in the United States," where he intends to "denounce the regime imposed" by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
At the same time, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, has spoken this Wednesday about the possible arrival of the Brazilian politician on U.S. territory and has shown willingness to receive him. "I would agree, it would seem fine to me," the president declared when asked, acknowledging that he knew the details of his escape. "I heard he was in Argentina," he added.
A spokesperson for the State Department indicated to Europa Press that the department led by Marco Rubio "will issue visas to Flávio Bolsonaro and his family and will allow them to enter the United States."
Referring to the electoral scenario that has led to Bolsonaro's departure from Brazil, Trump insisted that he did not intervene in the contest and that he knows "very well" both the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the Bolsonaro family.
Despite this, the head of the White House has launched reproaches at the process that concluded on Sunday with the re-election of the progressive leader. "The final result is good, but the way they arrived at that result was terrible," he has emphasized.
Growing judicial pressure on the Bolsonaro family
The departure of Flávio Bolsonaro comes just hours after the Federal Police of Brazil canceled their passports after the deadline set by Judge De Moraes for their surrender expired and imposed a ban on leaving the country, within a case for alleged money laundering through betting houses.
To this scenario is added a new decision by Supreme Court magistrate Flávio Dino, who has ordered an investigation into possible irregular foreign financing of his presidential campaign by the American lobby Rockbridge Network —founded by the current vice president of that country, JD Vance— amid suspicions of future concessions of mineral resources.
With his departure from Brazil, Flávio Bolsonaro imitates the route of his brother Eduardo, currently a fugitive from Justice in the United States. The father of both, former president Jair Bolsonaro, is currently under house arrest after being sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for an attempted coup.
