The Southern Command of the United States Army (SOUTHCOM) has carried out an attack against a vessel that was sailing in eastern Pacific waters, in the context of the campaign against drug trafficking defended by the Trump Administration. The operation has resulted in the death of five occupants of the boat.
According to the U.S. Army, in the action five "narcoterrorists" died after executing "a lethal and kinetic attack against a high-speed vessel operating along established drug trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific."
The military command itself has explained in a brief statement disseminated on social media that the bombing was carried out after receiving "confirmed" Intelligence information that accredited the "active participation" of the vessel in international drug trafficking networks.
According to data from SOUTHCOM, more than 230 people have lost their lives in nearly 70 operations carried out or coordinated by this command in the Caribbean Sea and in the eastern Pacific Ocean, all justified as part of the fight against "narcoterrorism." These actions have generated strong criticism from the opposition and from Human Rights organizations, which have gone so far as to label them as extrajudicial executions.
Currently, the military campaign of the Pentagon known as 'Southern Lance' is under judicial review. A U.S. federal judge has ordered the Donald Trump Administration to deliver a memorandum from the Department of Justice detailing the legal basis for these controversial bombings, initiated in September 2025.
