The candidate of the far-right Liberal Party for the Presidency of Brazil, Flávio Bolsonaro, is shaping up to be directly elected in the first round of the elections held this Sunday, having reached 50.24% of the votes with 4.58% of the official count completed.
If this trend is confirmed, Bolsonaro would be proclaimed president without the need to go to a second round.
His main contender and outgoing president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, would accumulate 41.28% of the votes, according to these initial data, which still represent a reduced fraction of the total.
The figures released correspond to the count of 20,853 electoral sections, out of the 499,248 contemplated by the Superior Electoral Court, the highest body in charge of overseeing the entire process.
