The Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, conveyed this Monday to the Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Baqeri Kani, the need for Tehran to give priority to "dialogue and negotiation" with the United States, underscoring the importance of avoiding a new military escalation at a time when both sides have exchanged messages in the midst of an attempt to reactivate diplomatic contacts.
The head of Chinese diplomacy recalled that the conflict in the Middle East has lasted over time and has spread to other areas, so recourse to dialogue and negotiation constitutes "the only solution", according to a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
In this context, Wang emphasized that "all parties must act responsibly toward their peoples and their history, moving toward a common goal and focusing on a political solution with a rational and pragmatic spirit, instead of resorting again to force", also reiterating Beijing's willingness to support initiatives and proposals aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.
The minister likewise defended the strength of ties with Iran "despite the turbulent and changing international situation". "Relations between China and Iran have maintained steady development, which redounds to the fundamental interest of both peoples and aligns with the aspirations of the global South for unity and cooperation", he said.
In this vein, the Chinese authorities reaffirmed their support for Iran "in safeguarding its sovereignty and security", and stated that they are willing to work with Tehran "to promote the continued development of bilateral relations".
For its part, and according to the version provided by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Iranian representative set out his country's position regarding the regional situation, assuring that Iran "will firmly safeguard its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, will resist hegemony and threats, and is willing to negotiate with all parties to actively contribute to regional peace and stability".
