The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, has accused the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, of exerting "pressure" on various governments with the aim of conditioning the vote that will take place at the end of October in the General Assembly of the UN regarding the blockade imposed by the United States on the island.

According to Rodríguez, "The Secretary of State of the United States, nervous and anxious in the face of another new defeat at the United Nations, is pressuring and blackmailing heads of state and government of various countries to change their vote against the blockade in the General Assembly of the UN," statements that he has disseminated through a message on social networks.

In the same vein, the head of Cuban diplomacy has maintained that "through his repeated lies and new actions, he tries to silence the act of collective punishment against the Cuban people and turn the rest of the international community into accomplices of this barbaric act."

The UN General Assembly is scheduled to debate and vote on a new resolution on September 29 that calls for the end of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that the United States maintains over Cuba.

Last September, Rodríguez presented a report detailing the economic damages linked to this policy and emphasized that the decision of the U.S. president, Donald Trump, to block the entry of fuel has intensified the energy crisis, affecting key sectors such as production, transportation, healthcare, and water supply.
