Hackers have breached the electronic communications system of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Parliament of Italy, managing to access the email inboxes of several parliamentarians, including the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, although the channel for official messages has remained unaltered.

According to sources from Parliament to the Adnkronos agency, this type of incursion is frequent and the National Cybersecurity Agency has already activated its specific protocol. "It is not an emergency and, generally, the usual practice consists of temporarily deactivating some functionalities," they clarify.

The same sources also indicate that in recent days "similar attempts of attacks on the computer systems of other national, European, and international institutions have intensified."

Meloni's office has confirmed to the Italian newspaper 'Repubblica' the existence of the attack, although it emphasizes that the compromised channel "is not used for government communications."
