The former head of the Israeli General Staff Gadi Eisenkot has assured that the political cycle of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is concluded, after the first projections of the elections held this Tuesday give the block he leads a provisional advantage at the polls.
According to these first data, the alliance led by Eisenkot would reach around 52 seats, about two more than the coalition that supports Netanyahu. However, neither of the two blocks would reach the absolute majority of 61 seats necessary in the Knesset, the Parliament of Israel, so it will be the president of the country, Isaac Herzog, who has the prerogative to designate the candidate in charge of trying to form an Executive.
Despite this, Eisenkot has already used his profiles on social media to assert that "the preliminary results show total distrust in Netanyahu and the government of October 7," referring to the attack by Palestinian militias that initiated the Gaza war, "from the majority Zionist sector and the majority of the citizens of Israel."
"If these are the final results, it is a victory for the state-Zionist majority in Israel," Eisenkot has also pointed out, who has committed to "act immediately to implement the verdict of the people, replace Netanyahu's government, and establish a government of Zionist mobilization, as soon as possible."
In the same vein, another of the opposition leaders, former Prime Minister Yair Lapid, has been particularly blunt in assessing the first data: "Do not be confused: Netanyahu's block suffered a hard defeat. It is a total collapse and the people have told them to go home," he has written on social media.
