The Government of Algeria made public this Thursday that it breaks its diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), alleging "the growing number of provocative and hostile actions" attributed to Abu Dhabi, which has not yet officially reacted to the decision made by Algiers.

According to the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cited by the state agency APS, "Algeria has decided to break diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates after exhausting all possible means to preserve bilateral relations."

The department has emphasized that "Algeria has demonstrated great moderation and a strong sense of responsibility in the face of the growing number of provocative and hostile actions by the UAE" and has indicated that it had already conveyed warnings about "the serious consequences" arising from what it describes as "a regrettable and unjustifiable behavior" on the part of the Asian country.

Likewise, it has added that "despite these numerous warnings, the UAE has persisted in its actions, which unfortunately have crossed the limits of what is acceptable or tolerable in the relations between two sovereign states and cannot go unpunished," while indicating that the decision was communicated during the day to the Emirati ambassador in Algiers.

In this line, Foreign Affairs has specified that the ambassador of the Emirates has also been informed that he has "a period of 48 hours to comply with the decision" of the Algerian authorities. Algiers has not yet offered more details about the actions attributed to the UAE, a country that in 2020 chose to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, an initiative that Morocco later joined.

On the other hand, the Emirati authorities have expressed their "hope that this decision is temporary, so that the fraternal ties between both brotherly peoples are preserved," according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disseminated by the official agency WAM.

Abu Dhabi, which has reiterated its "appreciation for the Algerian people," has stated that it maintains its "commitment" to preserve and "strengthen" the ties and "common interests" it has with Algiers.
