The Federal Police of Brazil maintains an open investigation against the senator and presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro for the "Dark Horse" case, focused on alleged irregular financing of a biographical film about the life of former president Jair Bolsonaro. The case has gained public relevance after the Supreme Court lifted the secrecy of the case file of the "Banco Master" case, a plot linked to former banker Daniel Vorcaro and connected to the aforementioned film.
Flavio, a member of the Liberal Party (PL), appears among the names indicated in the procedure authorized in July by the magistrate of the Federal Supreme Court André Mendonça. The inclusion of the senator in the list of those investigated was made known this Friday, following the decision to lift the secrecy of the case file at the request of the president of the highest Brazilian court, Edson Fachin, as reported by "O Globo".
Federal agents are analyzing the possible implication of the presidential candidate in money laundering, tax evasion, corruption, and other offenses that are preliminarily attributed to him. The suspicion centers on the request for resources that Flavio would have made to former banker Vorcaro to finance the production of the film, despite the latter being accused of fraud in the "Banco Master" case.
According to the investigations, the money would have been channeled to a fund in the United States managed by a lawyer close to former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL), Flavio's brother. Eduardo was sentenced to more than four years in prison for obstruction of justice, for attempting to pressure judges involved in the legal proceedings against his father.
Investigators suspect that a portion of those resources may have been diverted abroad to cover Eduardo's stay and expenses, who currently resides in the United States. The presidential candidate has acknowledged having maintained contacts with Vorcaro, but denies that the funds come from "public money".
