The Superior Court of Bogotá has issued this Wednesday house arrest against the former Minister of the Interior Luis Fernando Velasco, removed from his position in June 2024, in the context of the process that is being followed for his alleged involvement in a corruption scheme linked to the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).

In her resolution, Judge Diana Patricia Mojica has resolved "to impose a preventive detention measure in place of residence (...) against Luis Fernando Velasco Chávez (...) for the crimes of conspiracy to commit a crime as author, bribery for giving or offering as co-author, and contract celebration as determiner".

The decision has been formally communicated to the former minister, against whom there was an arrest warrant for his supposed participation in the so-called UNGRD case. The investigation focuses, in particular, on the alleged payment of bribes to congress members —the president of the Senate, Iván Name, and the president of the House of Representatives, Andrés Calle— in exchange for supporting in the Legislative several reforms promoted by the government led by Gustavo Petro.
