A total of 779 people were detained in France during the day of social protests and demonstrations this Saturday, a mobilization that ended without serious incidents during the night, according to the authorities.

Across the country, 291 rallies and marches were recorded that brought together 320,000 participants, of whom 70,000 gathered in Paris, according to the tally released by the Ministry of the Interior, which also highlights the carrying out of 40,000 checks throughout the territory. The organizers raise the figure and maintain that there were 500,000 demonstrators.

The figures are lower than those of the two previous calls. On October 24, 289 actions were counted with 410,000 attendees, 110,000 of them in the French capital, while on October 17 Interior recorded 441 actions with 550,000 people, also with 110,000 demonstrators in Paris.

Among the most serious episodes, the Paris Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation for "attempted homicide against persons with public authority" after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at police officers at the end of Saturday's march in the capital. One of the police officers was injured.

In this "third act" of the Saturday mobilizations, high school students have once again taken to the streets to protest despite the Government's proposal to reform the school circuit or Parcoursup and are calling for its abolition.

Likewise, the so-called 'yellow vests' and various trade union organizations have joined the protests to denounce the high cost of living, police violence and support the general strike called for November 5.
