At least one person has lost their life and several more have been injured in recent hours due to a new series of attacks by the Armed Forces of Russia against the city of Zaporiyia, which in recent days suffers a renewed offensive in which seven more fatalities and dozens of affected individuals have already been counted.
In the last 24 hours, the few areas of the province of Zaporiyia that remain outside Moscow's control have been the target of a large-scale offensive, during which Russian troops have executed 1,011 attacks on 57 localities, including the eponymous capital and several small settlements.
"Zaporiyia is recovering from the largest mass attack suffered by the city in recent years," declared the provincial governor, Ivan Fedorov, who admitted that these are "difficult days," while health and rescue teams continue deployed to try to minimize the consequences of the most recent bombings.
Fedorov himself has indicated that the main active company in the city, the steelworks Zaporizhstal --the fourth largest steel producer in Ukraine-- has been forced to halt its production due to the impact of the attacks. The seven confirmed fatalities from the previous day belong to the workforce of this factory.
For this new offensive, Russian forces have executed more than 250 artillery attacks and have employed around 700 drones, as Fedorov has specified, who also reported that several localities have been left without electricity supply.
The city of Zaporiyia is located relatively close to the southern front line and, therefore, tends to become a recurring target of Russian air attacks. Moscow has maintained control of about 70% of the territory of this region since the early phases of the invasion, which began in February 2022.
