The Pakistani Executive has held the Indian Border Police responsible this Saturday for the death of two civilians in the border area between both countries, an episode that has led the Pakistani Foreign Ministry to summon the Indian chargé d'affaires. The summons comes after Islamabad rejected the initial version from New Delhi, which attributed the victims to an attempt to infiltrate Indian territory.

The events took place on Friday in the town of Bedian, in the Pakistani province of Punjab, where, according to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, the Indian Border Security Force opened fire in a "lethal, unjustified, and enormously disproportionate" manner against two unarmed civilians, who died at the scene.

"Pakistan categorically rejects any attempt to falsely characterize the deceased as 'infiltrators'," emphasizes the note released by Foreign Affairs after this new episode of tension between the two historical rivals of South Asia.

The Pakistani diplomacy has conveyed to the Indian representative that the incident constitutes "a serious violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, and raises serious concerns regarding the protection of civilian life under International Law."

"The Indian side has been asked to conduct an immediate, transparent, and credible investigation into the incident, take appropriate disciplinary and legal action against those responsible, and formally communicate the findings and measures taken to the Government of Pakistan," concludes the statement.
