The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is scheduled to hold a meeting next Tuesday with his Iranian counterpart, Masud Pezeshkian, taking advantage of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which will take place in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
The Kremlin advisor, Yuri Ushakov, has confirmed this meeting between the two leaders in statements released by the Russian agency Interfax, in which he detailed that the meeting will be held on September 1, once "all" official events of the SCO have concluded.
Ushakov also indicated that Pezeshkian will be the first head of state to hold a dialogue with the Russian leader during the summit. Subsequently, Putin has scheduled meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as part of a round of contacts that will include a total of nine international leaders.
Regarding the meeting with the Iranian president, the Kremlin advisor emphasized "how relevant it is, considering the current situation of instability in the Middle East and the situation surrounding Iran." "Without a doubt, the topic of the Middle East will be one of the key topics during the conversations between the two leaders," he added, while also indicating that various issues on the bilateral agenda will be addressed.
