At least seven people have lost their lives in a new assault attributed to alleged fighters of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an organization linked to the jihadist group Islamic State, against a village in the Ituri province, in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
According to data released by the Congolese broadcaster Radio Okapi, the offensive targeted the locality of Amani, in the territory of Mambasa, where about 20 houses were also burned, forcing some of the inhabitants to flee, with no further details having emerged so far.
The attack has been recorded about a week after several incursions carried out by supposed members of the ADF against different populations of Mambasa, episodes that left at least 16 dead and numerous neighbors kidnapped by the jihadist group.
The ADF emerged in the 1990s in Uganda and maintain intense activity in the east of the DRC, where they are blamed for the deaths of thousands of civilians. The organization fractured in 2019 after its leader pledged allegiance to Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA) --the regional affiliate of the jihadist group-- under whose banner it has operated since then.
