The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has equated the alleged "hoax" about the risks associated with the advance of artificial intelligence with the "scam" of climate change and with the accusations of Russian interference in the U.S. elections.
"The people who say that AI is going to destroy the world and that data centers are bad for your neighborhood are the same ones who said not long ago that the world would go extinct due to 'climate change'. That hoax never worked for them and now they are going for the next one," Trump stated in a message posted on social media in which he declares himself "Hoaxbuster."
In his opinion, these "hoaxes" come from "evil revolutionaries" who, he claims, "work for people who do not have the interests of the United States in their minds."
"I am the Hoaxbuster and right now I am breaking another hoax: that AI is going to take control, consume, and destroy the world and that robots will march on our cities and get rid of all of us," he proposed. This "hoax" is "even worse than the hoax of Russia, Russia, Russia or the scam of global warming," he emphasized.
Trump's pronouncement comes amid a public debate following the warnings from the co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, who has called for "slowing down" the development of AI model capabilities due to the risk of "losing control" of this technology and triggering "cyberattacks," "bioterrorism," or "serious economic problems."
