The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has indicated that he trusts he can hold a "very soon" trilateral meeting with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, after emphasizing the "great progress" made in the latest conversations with both countries to promote a peace agreement.

"We have made great progress in the situation with Russia and Ukraine. We will have a meeting very soon," he stated before the media, stressing that both Putin and Zelensky will participate in that meeting, after it has been pointed out from Moscow and Kiev that a three-way summit is expected in early November in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

These statements come after the conversation held on Tuesday by the leaders of Finland and Norway with Putin, the first contact of a European leader with the Russian president in more than a year, focused on the latest discussions about a peace proposal for Ukraine, in the context of last week's summit in Oslo and the subsequent trip to Saint Petersburg by the United States envoy, Steve Witkoff, to directly address with the Kremlin the development of this process.

Later, Zelensky held separate conversations with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, with the aim of discussing his exchange with Putin and expressing his gratitude for their "active support" for the diplomatic path and peace initiatives alongside "partners." "It is necessary to have peace, a de-escalation is required, and Russia must stop prolonging the war," concluded the Ukrainian leader.

A senior U.S. official explained to Europa Press, on the eve of the meeting in Oslo, that the goal of the current efforts is "to continue coordinating a comprehensive proposal that can serve as a basis for resuming negotiations with Russia," specifying that the conversations "will focus on two parallel paths": one related to "the future of Ukraine" and another focused on the "conditions for lasting peace."

Regarding the first path, he detailed that it is based on "establishing a sovereign, secure, and prosperous future for Ukraine, including credible security guarantees, its European integration, and a comprehensive post-war economic framework that addresses Ukraine's financial needs and generates opportunities for long-term growth and investment."

Regarding the second avenue, the official indicated that he intends to "develop a comprehensive proposal for Russia that addresses the necessary points to end the war, establish a new and lasting security architecture between Russia and Europe, and explore opportunities for economic cooperation after the war," although for now no concrete details about this proposal or the possible elements of consensus among the involved parties have come to light.
