Turkey, a member along with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia of the Mecca Defense agreement, has emphasized that this common framework seeks a "new security architecture" for the region, open to the incorporation of more partners, after the first ministerial meeting of this bloc held in Istanbul.
"With this alliance, we will see how gradually greater stability is being consolidated in the region and how uncertainty decreases," valued the Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, who in a press conference after the meeting stated that the three countries want to establish a "new security architecture," reports the Anadolu agency.
According to Fidan, the Mecca Defense agreement is conceived as an instrument for "greater regional stability" and with the intention of integrating other states, as it has been launched "with the aim of expanding."
With this historic understanding, Ankara, Islamabad, and Riyadh intend to strengthen their military coordination amid the tension arising from the war between the United States and Iran and in line with the Defense initiative promoted by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan last year.
The pact was celebrated by the United States, whose president, Donald Trump, stated that it is a "first major step" towards a "more effective" defense in the Middle East and greater regional integration in the area.
Turkey's Criticism of Netanyahu
Fidan, on the other hand, when asked about the diplomatic clash between Turkey and Israel following the Israeli bombings in Syria, warned that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, "has become a common enemy of humanity, of the international community, and of security."
"He is not a person to be taken seriously. The international system must fight against the threat that Netanyahu represents," added the Turkish Foreign Minister.
