The deputy secretary of Autonomic and Municipal Policy and Electoral Analysis of the PP, Elías Bendodo, assured this Sunday that the crisis in Ceuta "has definitively exposed the incapacity and the null management" of Pedro Sánchez's Executive, whom he accused of "resisting for the sake of resisting" and of "being there just to be there, not to govern."
In his statements to the media, Bendodo considered that this month of August has been "the worst month of sanchismo" and emphasized that "Sánchez's Government was on vacation" while "national sovereignty was at risk."
According to what he indicated, in a situation of this gravity the Executive should project an "image of unity," but the different versions offered by the Ministries of Defense and Interior would demonstrate, in his opinion, that it is "a Government in disarray."
For the 'popular' leader, "the great failure is the diplomatic policy of this Government" and he attributed to the "disastrous international and diplomatic policy" of Sánchez's cabinet "the origin of all this." In this line, he also criticized the internal differences in the coalition regarding the policy towards Morocco and the Sahara.
Furthermore, Bendodo denounced that "thousands of irregular immigrants who entered are still in Ceuta, roaming freely, generating insecurity and unsanitary conditions in the streets," for which he demanded an "urgent solution" ahead of the start of the school year that guarantees "security and normalcy."
The PP official insisted that "all those who entered irregularly" in Ceuta "must return" and urged the Government to activate "all diplomatic channels or those it deems appropriate" to recover "as soon as possible" the normalcy in the autonomous city.
Regarding Sánchez's appearance scheduled for September 3, Bendodo asked the head of the Executive to come to Congress with "solutions and explanations," to clarify "how this could have happened" and to offer guarantees that it will not happen again.
In this context, he reproached Sánchez for going to the Chamber "dragging his feet," more than a month after the entry of immigrants in Ceuta. He lamented that "the national Government cannot go on vacation and Pedro Sánchez has been on vacation for a month letting this progress" and wondered: "What else has to happen for a Prime Minister to suspend his vacation?"
On the other hand, Bendodo has announced that the PP will promote support gatherings for Ceuta on September 2 in those municipalities where the socialist mayors do not support the call. He detailed that these mobilizations, scheduled for 8:00 PM, aim to be "in favor of Ceuta, of the Ceutians, and to demand an urgent solution, a return to normality for this city."
The leader of the PP has insisted that these gatherings "are not against anyone," but seek "to support the Ceutians" and demand "a return to normality as soon as possible."
