The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, together with the members of his steering committee, will join at 20:00 the minute of silence called by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) in memory of the victims of the railway accident that occurred in the province of Toledo.
The provisional toll raises to at least 68 the dead and to dozens the injured after the collision of an AVE with an Iryo in the municipal area of Los Yébenes (Toledo). The Executive attributes what happened to a possible error in the control center, which would have authorized the circulation "against the regulations".
The FEMP, which has called for this minute of silence this afternoon in front of the town halls of the whole country, has expressed its condolences to the relatives and close ones of the fatal victims, in addition to recognizing the work of the emergency services deployed in the area.
Feijóo backs the event in Madrid
In an institutional statement from the national headquarters of the PP, Feijóo has announced that this afternoon he will go to Madrid City Hall to support the minute of silence promoted by the FEMP "with pain, with solidarity and with demand".
The leader of the populars has stressed that the impact of this new railway accident does not "force them to keep quiet" and has underlined that "serenity is not silence", although he has admitted that this is the time for "respect for the dead, the injured and their relatives".
Along with Feijóo will be in front of the Palacio de Cibeles the general secretary of the PP, Miguel Tellado; the deputy secretary for Finance, Housing and Infrastructure, Juan Bravo; and the number two for Madrid, Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo, according to what the party has communicated.
