The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, announced this Wednesday that his party will go to the Supreme Court to challenge the decision of several ministers of the Government to avoid their presence in the Senate during the month of August, where they were called to appear to "inform the Ceutíes" and all Spaniards "why Ceuta has been invaded."

As he explained, the 'popular' intend for the High Court to determine whether the members of the Executive "can refuse to appear in the Chamber of territorial representation of the Cortes Generales" and "not inform about what has happened in Ceuta." Feijóo emphasized that "The Government cannot decide in which Chamber it accepts to be controlled," referring to Moncloa's argument of limiting itself to the explanations offered in the Congress of Deputies.

In his intervention before the media from the autonomous city, the president of the PP stressed that attendance at Congress "does not exempt" members of the Government from giving explanations in the Senate, which was the Chamber that requested the appearances "in the first place." The press conference was held in Ceuta and was covered by Europa Press.

Constitutional obligation and criticism of the Government

Feijóo also emphasized that his party will use "all the instruments at hand" to ensure that "this constitutional obligation" of parliamentary control is respected. In this context, he described it as "devastating" that "some European prime ministers" have given explanations before the President of the Government himself, Pedro Sánchez.

The leader of the PP has accused the Executive of "absolute irresponsibility" and has denounced that "The absolute irresponsibility of the central government is leaving more than 80,000 Spaniards residing in Ceuta unprotected. It is also leaving thousands of people who wander the streets and beaches to their fate, many of them without food," insisting on the need for the Government to provide formal explanations in the Upper House.
