Frente Amplio has called for political responsibilities to be clarified after the railway accident that occurred in Urda (Toledo), in which 68 people have so far died, considering it "inadmissible" that two accidents of such severity are recorded in the same year on the high-speed network.
At the same time, the formation has asked this Wednesday for the launch of an independent audit that thoroughly assesses the current state of the railway network and the services linked to it.
According to the candidacy explained in a statement released after the press conference of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, and after the institutional statement by the President of the Government, its pronouncement is made from "consternation and sadness". In this regard, it first conveys its condolences to the relatives and close ones of the fatal victims, as well as its support for the technical teams operating in the area and for the railway staff as a whole.
In the same text, Frente Amplio emphasizes that the "gravity of this terrible event obliges the utmost clarity and transparency about what happened" and also turns its gaze to the Ministry of Transport by noting that "the repetition of such a serious accident on the high-speed network in the same year is inadmissible".
For this reason, and in view of the magnitude of what happened, the formation insists that it is essential that "responsibilities at all levels" be assumed. "Beyond technical responsibilities, we demand the assumption of political responsibilities. Out of responsibility and out of humanity," it adds, before announcing that it is suspending all its pre-campaign schedule until further notice.
