The police union JUPOL has indicated that it values "positively" the recent resignation of the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, whom it blames for having resorted to the Police "as a shield" when it was useful to him and, subsequently, for "abandoning it when the criticisms arrive."

The union organization recalls that, throughout the time that Martín has been at the head of the Government Delegation, he has repeatedly called for his departure from the position due to a management with which he has shown constant disagreement. The most recent request took place after the delegate's criticisms of the police intervention at the Complutense University of Madrid.

Those charges on October 14 were framed in the first day of the educational strike called in the Community of Madrid. A group of protesters gathered at Ciudad Universitaria and the National Police dissolved the protest through charges, an action that was later questioned by Martín.

"It is unacceptable that someone who is supposed to lead and support the National Police dedicates themselves to publicly questioning their professionals and doubting their actions," JUPOL has emphasized, which includes in its reproaches the way the mobilizations against the PSOE on Ferraz street and the pro-Palestinian protests during La Vuelta were managed.

In this line, the union insists that the National Police "does not need political leaders who use it as a shield when it suits them and abandon it when the criticisms arrive," but rather leaders who "face up, take responsibility for their decisions, and defend those who risk their physical integrity on the street."

Therefore, JUPOL has conveyed a "clear message" to whoever will soon assume the Government Delegation, to whom it demands "less political calculation and more citizen security." "We demand courage, responsibility, and institutional support without complexes for the National Police," they add, emphasizing that "the safety of Madrid residents does not tolerate cowardice."

The resignation of Francisco Martín at the head of the Government Delegation occurred on Sunday, as confirmed by sources from his environment and also socialists to Europa Press. His departure comes after being left off the PSOE lists for the elections on November 29 and amid controversy over the camping at Puerta del Sol.
