The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, held a telephone conversation this Wednesday with King Felipe VI to bring him up to date on the first available data about the train accident recorded early in the morning in the province of Toledo.

From Moncloa they confirmed that contact between the head of the Executive and the monarch, in which they addressed the "grave" accident that, according to the initial official figures, has left at least 30 dead and dozens injured.

Sánchez had previously released a message on his social networks in which he explained that, since early morning, he was following the development of the event in permanent communication with the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, and with the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, to whom he conveyed his support, as well as to the victims and their families.

For his part, the King expressed his "condolences, support and affection" at a "so hard and difficult" moment, as he stated before the media this same Wednesday in Bétera (Valencia), where he was attending a military exercise at the Jaime I Base.

According to what he related, it was there that he learned of the accident that occurred early in the morning, and he explained that he had already spoken with García-Page and that he was waiting to return to continue the management of the emergency and learn with greater precision what had happened.

"The first thing is to lament the terrible accident with apparently the high number of fatal victims and many injured. I know that they are in the full process of attending to the emergency and they are recovering and analyzing all the circumstances," said the head of State.
