The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has lashed out at the serious incidents recorded last Saturday in Barcelona, which he has defined as "pure vandalism," and has emphasized that the Executive maintains "zero tolerance" with the authors of the violent acts.
In a message disseminated on the social network 'X' and reported by Europa Press, the head of the Executive argues that the protests cannot be considered a democratic expression and states that they were organized and encouraged through social media.
"There is an investigation underway and 128 detainees who will answer before justice," indicates the Executive, which reaffirms its position with a blunt statement: "Zero tolerance for the violent and full support for the agents and the merchants."
Sánchez's message comes after the serious altercations that occurred in the city, where damage to urban furniture and looting in around thirty shops located in the vicinity of Plaza Cataluña were recorded.
The disturbances, which have now been publicly condemned by the president, ultimately resulted in 130 people being detained. More than half of those arrested, specifically 74 men and two women, were minors.
This Monday, several ministers of the Government have pointed to the far right as politically responsible for these episodes, considering that they are the ones who benefit from the image of chaos and disorder projected by these events.
