Sumar claims that it is "building something important" and advancing in "alliances" with the aim of "presenting a political project that is up to the challenge" of the electoral challenge represented by the elections scheduled for 2027. A task whose results will be known "in the coming weeks" and in which they consider it essential to "fight" for the "unity" of the left and "contribute" their ability to "broaden, mobilize, and be recognizable" within a "stable and strong space of the left."
This has been stated by the co-coordinators of the space, Verónica Martínez Barbero and Rosa Martínez, during the first in-person meeting of the Coordinating Group of the organization held in Madrid after the assembly in July.
"We are going to announce important things in the coming weeks, we have been working for a while, we are prepared, we are going to be up to the task because people are waiting for us," Martínez has assured. "We are building something important hand in hand with our sister organizations and Movimiento Sumar has a central role in this construction," she emphasized.
IU, Comuns, Más Madrid, and Movimiento Sumar set the end of summer and the beginning of the new political course as the moment to clear up the uncertainties that have been dragging since they confirmed their willingness to renew their electoral alliance in February: the brand with which they will compete and the electoral reference of the project.
However, the leaders did not offer concrete details in their speeches this Saturday. Martínez Barbero recalled that in 2023, under "very difficult conditions" and in "very little time," they were able to articulate a candidacy that garnered more than 3 million votes, obtained 31 seats in Congress, and allowed "to close the door to a government of PP and Vox and open a new progressive stage in Spain."

"And we will do it again. We have not stopped working for it. We have energy, conviction, and capacity," she defended, emphasizing that in these three years in the coalition government they have demonstrated that they know "what to do with that strength" and have contributed to the Executive "ambition, capacity to negotiate, and solvency to turn proposals into rights."
"We have demonstrated that it is possible to govern from the left and achieve things that for years we were told were impossible, which end up being common sense," she pointed out, before emphasizing that Sumar has "a lot of journey ahead" and claiming its advances in employment, housing, democratic memory, ecological transition, feminism, care, and culture.
In her opinion, all of this also explains Sumar's contribution to a left that "necessarily has to be plural" and she described its space as an "unequivocally leftist left that wants to be majority, that can govern with the PSOE and tell it no when it is wrong."
Widening, mobilizing, and being recognizable
"But we do not confuse the enemy. We are clear that what is in front of us is a right that wants to take this country backward and that we have to confront with all our strength," she warned, calling to "fight for unity" and to "contribute to a stable and strong space of the left" all their "capacity to widen, mobilize, and be recognizable."
"We have a huge opportunity ahead. We have a project, we have prepared people, and we have organizations willing to work together. But above all, we have the ambition to change this country and the capacity to do so," the parliamentary spokesperson stated.
For her part, Rosa Martínez expressed her conviction that, although the right "already sees itself as the winner," in Spain "there are many more decent people than people who have half the country to spare." Therefore, she took for granted that the elections will be won by "the decent people who have values."
"Let no one doubt that we are in the right place defending what is right," emphasized the Secretary of State for Social Rights, who took the opportunity to condemn "each and every one of the aggressions with a clearly political motivation" recorded in recent weeks against migrants, the LGTBI community, or the group Tanxugueiras, aggressions that she linked to the hate speeches that, in her opinion, the right promotes.
Rights or fascism
Martínez warned that these are not "isolated facts" but rather obey "a strategy" against which one cannot "tiptoe around or look the other way." "We are at a crossroads: either coexistence or hate, welcome or violence, rights or fascism. And in Movimiento Sumar we are very clear about where we stand," she emphasized.
It has also referred to the economic difficulties arising from inflation and the rising cost of housing. In this sense, it has demanded that the decree law for the extension and regulation of rents be approved in the Council of Ministers "before the end of September" and that the inflation linked to the increase in energy prices be "taken seriously," updating "the protection for families and businesses that ends at the end of this month."
"We are kidnapped and conditioned by a fossil economy that in every geopolitical crisis is used to earn an even more indecent amount of money," he has denounced, referring to the profit margins of the oil sector, accusing PP and Vox of "putting a brake on our energy sovereignty and the ecological transition."
