The Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Rebeca Torró, has criticized the president of the autonomous city of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, for following the "orders" of the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in managing the migration crisis, and has warned that the head of the opposition is "a bad virus that is infecting not only Spanish politics but also its leaders."
Torró expressed this during the opening of the Political Conference of the PSPV-PSOE, which is being held this weekend in Alicante. From there, she asked Feijóo "why Vivas and the PP are competing with the far-right Vox" and have "abandoned the interests of the people of Ceuta to look after their own."
In her speech, she lashed out at Vivas for having "gone from pulling the cart alongside the Government, as he had done on other occasions, to putting sticks in the wheels" in managing the migration crisis, something she labeled as "regrettable." At the same time, she questioned him "why he refuses to allow minors to be transferred to the Peninsula and thus accelerate the return to normality."
In contrast to this attitude, she defended that Spain needs a "serious opposition with a sense of State." "If you don't want to collaborate, at least don't make things difficult," she demanded from the PP.
Additionally, Torró emphasized that the Government of Spain led by Pedro Sánchez is "in search of a solution to every problem," also in the case of Ceuta, while she accused the PP of being focused on "putting a problem to every solution." "And their fallback response is always the same: to call for elections, they don't know anything else," she reproached.
The socialist leader insisted that where the PP sees "a political battle," the PSOE sees "an emergency that demands responsibilities and a sense of State." "And while we think about how to move the country forward, they think about how to move the PP forward and, in the process, make money. Because they always do that very well," she added, citing as an example the flood of October 29, 2024, in Valencia.
Criticism of the PP for its management and for the case of Ceuta
She also pointed out that, in the case of Ceuta, "with Vivas giving five million euros to the relatives of his trusted officials." "Always the same modus operandi," she reproached the popular. She further emphasized that the PSOE sees "people who need help," while the PP "dehumanizes them to turn them into one more opportunity to attack the Government." "Ceuta is another example of this," she emphasized.
In this context, Rebeca Torró has highlighted the actions of the Government of Spain in the face of the migration crisis, with "more than three hundred million euros to protect public services, the economy, and self-employed workers and workers from Ceuta," the reinforcement of personnel from the State Security Forces and Corps, and the creation of more than 6,000 places for the care of migrant people.
