The coordinator of Somos Asturies has decided to support the former regional deputy and unionist Kike López as their representative to integrate into the candidacy of the Frente Amplio por Asturias.
Born in Xixón in 1959, Kike López began his political activism at 14 years old in the Juventudes Comunistas in secrecy. At 21, he obtained a position as a civil servant of the Principality and, for a good part of his working life, worked as a union representative in Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) and in the Corriente Sindical d'Izquierda (CSI).
In the institutional sphere, he was a councilor of IU in the municipality of Bimenes for four years, a stage in which he was the protagonist of the reading of the first declaration of official status of Asturian approved by a City Council. Subsequently, between 2015 and 2019, he held a seat as a regional deputy of Podemos Asturies.
After confirming his incorporation into the list of the Frente Amplio, Kike López conveyed to IU Asturies and Sumar his total availability to occupy the position deemed most appropriate, with the aim of facilitating the entry of new social and political organizations into the project of the Frente Amplio, as stated by Somos Asturies.
"The only important thing is that each of us do what we can to stop fascism, this is more important than people and parties," Kike López has said.
