The arrest of Fernando Cerimedo in Bolivia has once again placed one of the Argentine consultants linked in recent years to political communication and digital campaigns of the Latin American right in the spotlight. His trajectory includes his participation in the presidential campaign of Javier Milei in 2023 and work related to the political environment of Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil.
The Attorney General's Office of the State of Bolivia reported his apprehension as part of an investigation for an alleged crime of attempted femicide following the attack against Nadia Beller.
His current situation contrasts with a professional trajectory developed between political consulting, digital strategy, and communication on networks, fields in which he was gaining presence within different political and media projects in Latin America.
From political consulting to digital campaigns
Cerimedo has developed his activity as a consultant and specialist in digital political communication. His work in electoral campaigns and the use of social networks as a communication tool are part of his professional profile. He was also linked to Numen, an agency related to consulting and political strategy.
One of the moments that gave him greater visibility was his participation in the presidential campaign of Javier Milei in 2023. His activity was also related to the communication strategy and the use of networks during a campaign in which digital communication had a central weight.
Cerimedo's trajectory also includes work linked to the political environment of Jair Bolsonaro, especially in the field of digital campaigns. Likewise, he was one of the promoters of La Derecha Diario, a medium that was part of the communicative ecosystem linked to the Argentine libertarian political space.
Arrested in Bolivia
Last Friday, a court in Bolivia decreed 180 days of preventive detention for Fernando Cerimedo, investigated for attempted femicide against his ex-partner in a prison in the eastern region of Santa Cruz, as part of a case for the alleged crime of femicide against his ex-partner, the lawyer and activist Nadia Beller, who survived an armed attack carried out by two hitmen on Monday.
Cerimedo must serve 180 days of detention in the Palmasola prison, also in Santa Cruz, after knowing the judicial decision, issued “for having probably been found as the author and the concurrence of five procedural risks,” as detailed shortly after to national media by Beller's lawyer, Jerjes Justiniano.
The advisor was arrested on Tuesday, August 18, at the main airport of Santa Cruz, less than 24 hours after the shooting attack against Beller, who received at least three bullet impacts from a couple of unknown individuals. Cerimedo's defense claims that their client is innocent and that the process is a farce aimed at ultimately harming the Bolivian government of President Rodrigo Paz.
The presidential spokesperson, José Luis Gálvez, assured on Tuesday that Cerimedo was “a close collaborator” of Paz during the campaign for the general elections of 2025 and that subsequently “he continued collaborating” on some “specific communication issues.”
