The president of the Diputación de Ourense, Luis Menor, has reiterated the institution's support for the primary sector of the province and has announced that, once the applications are reviewed, a possible increase and improvement of the subsidy line aimed at livestock farmers and farmers will be evaluated.
"We have to act on the territory and contribute to the viability of agricultural and livestock operations," he pointed out during the visit made this Wednesday to a livestock farm in the municipality of Xunqueira de Espadanedo, where he was accompanied by the mayor, Pablo Graña, and by representatives of the Asociación do Sector Primario de Galicia --created in Ourense--.
The Diputación approved on August 24 the bases of two new aid calls, endowed in total with 350,000 euros, aimed at supporting agricultural and livestock operations, promoting the rearing and favoring the management and protection of the territory, in compliance with the commitments made after the protests of livestock farmers and farmers in the province held in January and February of this 2026.
In this context, Menor has indicated that "numerous applications" are expected and has advanced that, when the demands are analyzed, the administration will study the "possibility of increasing those aids and improving them," highlighting the importance of measures that "directly impact the territory and the people, as a useful institution for society."
TWO LINES OF AID
The first of the support lines is aimed at actions for the prevention of forest fires and support for livestock and agricultural operations, with an allocation of 200,000 euros. Of this amount, 25,000 euros are reserved for current expenses to finance the collection, transport, treatment, and recycling of agricultural plastics in the operations; and 175,000 euros are allocated to investments, with which the purchase of machinery for fire prevention and biomass management can be covered.
For its part, the second call focuses on promoting the rearing of female cattle, sheep, and goats in extensive operations, with a total allocation of 150,000 euros. Of this amount, 130,000 euros are assigned to cattle and 20,000 euros to sheep and goats. In both programs, the deadline for submitting applications will remain open until September 25.
