A fire declared shortly before 3:30 PM this Tuesday in the mountain area of Quiroga (Lugo) has already burned, according to initial estimates, more than 20 hectares, according to data provided to Europa Press by sources from the Consellería de Medio Rural.
From the autonomous department, they point out that the firefighting resources continue deployed on the ground to halt the advance of the flames and emphasize the added complication posed by the constant changes in wind direction in the affected area.
The origin of the fire is located in the parish of Pacios da Serra, in an environment of low mountain and large pine masses. The councilor responsible for Medio Rural in Quiroga, Luis Manuel Arias, has also explained to Europa Press that the wind is being a key element that is hindering the firefighting efforts.
"The fire started up in the mountain, on a summit, and there were moments when it seemed diminished and that it was going to be put out, but in the end it was not," he lamented, before specifying that, although the front has moved down the slope, for now there are no inhabited areas in danger.
On the part of the Consellería, they insist that the operatives continue to act in the area and maintain permanent communication with the mayor, José Luis Rivera.
Currently, eight agents, 13 brigades, 13 water pumps, four bulldozers, four UDEX agents, and one technician are working in the device. In addition, throughout the day, a seaplane, eight ground support aircraft, one FOCA aircraft, five firefighting helicopters, and two others for coordination have intervened.
