Unió de Pagesos has claimed from the Government of the Generalitat the implementation of a plan for the control of game fauna that covers the entire region of Girona and that serves to address the "overpopulation" of these animals, especially wild boars.
According to the agricultural organization in a statement, the request was made during a meeting held this Friday with the territorial services of the Department of Agriculture.
The union has also urged the Catalan Executive to declare a hunting emergency in the private hunting areas of the Rocacorba massif, where the capture objectives set have not been met, and to authorize hunting drives even once the harvest has been collected.
Unió de Pagesos has pointed out that intervening in farms where the harvest has already been lifted would facilitate control tasks, allow for continuous management of the fauna throughout the year, and make it possible to develop preventive actions.
The organization has emphasized that the management of the "overpopulation" of game fauna such as wild boars "is a country problem," due to the risks it poses to crops, livestock health, and road safety on the highways.
