The Education counselor, María Pardo, stated this Thursday that the new Professional Conservatory of Music of León is "on the verge of finishing," while the UPL representative, Luis Mariano Santos, reproached the Junta for the lack of agility, emphasizing the 19 years of waiting for an infrastructure that already operates in seven of the nine provinces of the Community.
In his speech, the Leonese representative criticized the continuous delays of the project and pointed out that the initial commitment of the PP dates back to 2008, insisting that the delay is unjustifiable for León and Zamora compared to other provinces of Castilla y León that have had a conservatory for years.
"Be less diligent if you want to be, have less commitment but finish the Conservatory of León once and for all," demanded Luis Mariano Santos to the new Education counselor, reminding her that the first promise of the PP dates back to 2008. "We have been waiting for 19 years, as Zamora is also doing, for infrastructures that the other seven provinces of Castilla y León already enjoy. They will probably make renovations in their buildings before ours are completed," the Leonese representative ironized.
In response to these criticisms, María Pardo defended the actions of the regional government and explained that the delays are due to circumstances beyond the Administration, recalling that the previous contract for the Conservatory of Music of León had to be rescinded due to the culpable non-compliance of the awarded company, which ended up in bankruptcy.
According to the counselor, that situation forced the drafting of a continuation project for the works, to hire a new technical management, and to re-tender the work, which was finally awarded for almost 5.4 million euros, which has meant rescheduling the entire execution calendar.
"In the face of a problem beyond the Administration, we are resolving it, we are reactivating the work and we are already, effectively, on the verge of finishing it," concluded Pardo, who assured that her goal is for it to "start up immediately."
