The PSPV-PSOE has again denounced the "suffocation" of Valencian culture and has announced that it will demand the appearance of the Minister of Culture, Carmen Ortí, to detail the supposed "mismanagement" that, in its opinion, the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC) suffers.
This was stated this Thursday in a statement by the spokesperson for Culture of the PSPV-PSOE in Les Corts, Jose Chulvi, who has warned of the "paralysis" that, according to him, the Valencian cultural policy is experiencing. His criticisms come after the departure of María Angélica Manrique, until now responsible for the grants area of the IVC, who moves to the Culture area of the Diputació de València just a year after her arrival at the entity from the Junta de Castilla y León.
In this regard, the socialist leader has emphasized that this departure "is not an isolated case, but rather a further symptom of a deterioration that has plagued the Ministry of Culture for three years, with three different ministers at the head of the department and a succession of dismissals and resignations of high-ranking officials that has also affected the general direction of the IVC and several sub-directorates, including those of Music and Audiovisuals."
Chulvi has also pointed out that this "instability" at the top has "very concrete consequences" for the sector. "They are suffocating Valencian culture with their inaction and their inability to manage," and he indicated that the Circuit Cultural Valencià, the programming network intended to structure the cultural offer throughout the territory, "simply does not work and the aid and subsidies to creators, companies, and cultural entities are accumulating delays that jeopardize their viability."
In light of this scenario, the Socialist Parliamentary Group has registered the request for the appearance of the Minister of Culture in the Culture commission of Les Corts, in order for her to "provide explanations about this chain of dismissals and resignations and about the functioning of the IVC." "Valencian culture cannot continue to pay for the incompetence of Pérez Llorca's government. We demand that the minister face Les Corts and explain once and for all what plan she has, if she has any," he has claimed.
