The number of fatalities from the fire declared on Tuesday in a gas complex in the Russian region of Amur, in the easternmost part of the country, has risen to 15, as confirmed this Thursday by the company responsible for the facilities, which specified that fourteen of the deceased are of foreign nationality.
In a statement released on its social media, the company reported that "the search and rescue operations have concluded" and emphasized that "all the deceased are employees." In addition, it detailed that the incident has left another 39 injured, several of whom were airlifted to Moscow for specialized medical attention.
The company also communicated that it will provide financial compensation to both the families of the deceased and the injured workers. At the same time, it emphasized that it continues to conduct air quality checks in the area of the complex and in nearby populations, without any "concentrations above permissible levels" having been detected so far.
On Wednesday, the company had already indicated that the majority of the fatalities were Chinese citizens and confirmed that the flames had been "completely extinguished." The causes of the fire have not yet been clarified and are being investigated by the competent Russian authorities.
