A person has been injured this Monday, August 17, after being run over by a train at the Llamaquique station, located in Oviedo. The accident occurred around 3:05 PM at an unauthorized crossing, according to information provided by Adif sources.

The incident initially forced a complete suspension of rail traffic at the station. Shortly after, one of the tracks was reopened, although the incident caused delays on lines C1, C2, and C3 of the Cercanías network in Asturias.

So far, the identity, age, or specific condition of the injured person has not been publicly communicated. The circumstances under which they were in the railway area have also not been specified.

The accident occurred at 3:05 PM

The run-over took place during the afternoon of this Monday at the underground Llamaquique station. Adif sources confirmed that the person was at an unauthorized crossing when they were hit by the train.

Traffic was completely interrupted while the emergency was attended to and the first actions were carried out in the area. The suspension affected the trains that were supposed to pass through Llamaquique, a station through which several of the main railway connections in the central Asturian area run.

After the initial interruption, Adif allowed traffic on one of the tracks. The partial reopening facilitated the gradual recovery of service, although the trains continued to accumulate delays.

The available information does not allow for determining whether access to the tracks was accidental or related to some other circumstance. The authorities have not communicated a cause, so it is not possible to attribute intent to the incident.

Delays on lines C1, C2, and C3 of Cercanías

The accident affected three lines of Renfe that cross or have a direct relationship with the Llamaquique station. According to official information about the Cercanías network of Asturias, the affected connections were:

  • C1, which connects Gijón and Oviedo with Pola de Lena and Puente de los Fierros.
  • C2, between Oviedo and El Entrego.
  • C3, which connects Llamaquique and Oviedo with Avilés and San Juan de Nieva.

Adif published a notice at 3:46 PM on its Network Status page informing of delays due to the unauthorized access of a person to the tracks in Llamaquique.

In the consultation held during the afternoon, the specific notice was no longer listed among the active incidents on the public panel of Adif. The railway administrator, however, had not disseminated in the consulted information a specific time for the complete normalization of the three lines.

Travelers can check the status of their trains through the official channels of Adif and Renfe, as delays may continue for some time after the reopening of a track due to the accumulation of pending circulations.

No information on the severity of the injuries

The first information only confirms that the person struck was injured. No medical report has been provided nor has it been publicly indicated whether the injuries are minor, serious, or very serious.

No data has been disseminated about the train involved, the number of passengers traveling on it, or possible additional impacts. The known consequences are limited, for now, to the initial interruption of traffic and the delays recorded in the Cercanías services.
