The labor calendar of 2027 in Spain is already official. The Official State Gazette (BOE) published on October 13 the list of public holidays approved by the 17 autonomous communities and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, which allows knowing in advance the holidays and the main bridges of the next year. In total, workers can enjoy up to 14 paid and non-recoverable holidays, distributed among nine dates that will be celebrated throughout Spain, others of an autonomous scope, and two festive days determined by each municipality.

The next year presents several particularities. January 1, New Year's Day, will be Friday; November 1, All Saints, will fall on Monday; and December 6, Constitution Day, will also coincide with a Monday. In addition, the Immaculate Conception will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 8, which will allow for a five-day consecutive break for those who can take off on Tuesday, December 7. Holy Week will arrive at the end of March and will offer periods of four or five consecutive holiday days, depending on the autonomous community. However, other celebrations, such as May 1 and December 25, will fall on Saturday, while the Assumption of the Virgin, on August 15, will coincide with a Sunday.

What are the nine national holidays of 2027 throughout Spain

According to the resolution of the General Directorate of Labor published in the BOE, nine days will be holidays in all autonomous communities and autonomous cities during 2027. These dates constitute the common part of the labor calendar, although some coincide with Saturdays and, therefore, do not generate an additional day off for those who work from Monday to Friday.

Date Holiday
Friday, January 1 New Year's Day
Wednesday, January 6 Epiphany
Friday, March 26 Good Friday
Saturday, May 1 Labor Day
Tuesday, October 12 National Day of Spain
Monday, November 1 All Saints
Monday, December 6 Constitution Day
Wednesday, December 8 Immaculate Conception
Saturday, December 25 Christmas

At these dates, other holidays are added that may vary according to the territory. This is the case of the Holy Thursday, which will be celebrated on March 25 in all communities except Catalonia and the Valencian Community, or the Easter Monday, on March 29, which will be a holiday in the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Navarre, the Basque Country, La Rioja, and the Valencian Community. There are also differences in the transfer of certain celebrations that coincide with Sunday, such as August 15.

Labor calendar 2027 by autonomous communities: all the specific holidays

Each autonomous community has its own calendar, which combines national holidays with other traditional celebrations. These are the additional or specific dates for each territory, which must be added to the nine common holidays to know the complete calendar.

Basque Country March 25 (Holy Thursday), March 29 (Easter Monday) and October 7 (anniversary of the first Government of Euskadi).
La Rioja March 25 (Holy Thursday), March 29 (Easter Monday) and June 9 (Day of La Rioja).
Valencian Community March 19 (Saint Joseph), March 29 (Easter Monday) and October 9 (Day of the Valencian Community).
Ceuta March 25 (Holy Thursday), May 17 (Feast of Sacrifice) and August 5 (Our Lady of Africa). Local holidays are also set on March 10 and September 2.
Melilla March 10 (Eid al-Fitr), March 25 (Holy Thursday) and May 17 (Feast of Sacrifice). Local holidays include September 8 and 17.

In the case of Canary Islands, the calendar presents an additional peculiarity: each island has its own holiday. Tenerife will celebrate the Virgin of Candelaria on February 2; La Palma, Our Lady of the Snows on August 5; Gran Canaria, Our Lady of the Pine on September 8; Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Our Lady of the Volcanoes on September 15; Fuerteventura, Our Lady of the Peña on September 17; El Hierro, Our Lady of the Kings on September 24; and La Gomera, Our Lady of Guadalupe on October 4.

There are also peculiarities in Catalonia, where the Arán territory will replace Easter Monday, scheduled for March 29, with June 17, Arán Festival. These differences demonstrate why it is important to consult the specific calendar of the place of residence before organizing vacations.

Easter 2027: what days will be holidays and where there will be five days of rest

Easter 2027 will be celebrated between March 21 and March 28, with Palm Sunday on the 21st, Holy Thursday on the 25th, Good Friday on the 26th, and Easter Sunday on the 28th. The following day, Monday, March 29, Easter Monday will be celebrated in six autonomous communities.

This distribution will allow for five consecutive days of rest, from Thursday the 25th to Monday the 29th of March, in Balearic Islands, Navarre, Basque Country, and La Rioja, as long as one has a usual work calendar from Monday to Friday. In these four communities, both Holy Thursday and Good Friday and Easter Monday will be holidays.

In Catalonia and the Valencian Community, where Holy Thursday will not be a holiday, the rest can be extended for four consecutive days, from Friday the 26th to Monday the 29th of March. In the rest of the communities, which celebrate Holy Thursday but not Easter Monday, there will also be four consecutive days between Thursday the 25th and Sunday the 28th.

Therefore, Easter will be one of the best opportunities in the 2027 work calendar to organize vacations without consuming too many days off. Those who can have additional days before or after these dates will have the possibility to extend the rest period, always depending on their work conditions.

The best long weekends of 2027: December, October, and long weekends

In addition to Holy Week, the calendar of 2027 offers several opportunities to link holidays with the weekend, although the possibilities change depending on the autonomous community and the number of holidays that each worker can use.

December Bridge: up to five days with one vacation day

The Monday, December 6 will be a national holiday for Constitution Day, while the Wednesday, December 8 will celebrate the Immaculate Conception. This combination will allow for five consecutive days of rest, from Saturday the 4th to Wednesday the 8th, if Tuesday the 7th is requested as a day off.

In Navarra, there is also a particularity: the Friday, December 3 is celebrated as a local holiday for San Francisco Javier, so those who have that day recognized in their work calendar will be able to link six days of rest, from Friday the 3rd to Wednesday the 8th, using only Tuesday the 7th as vacation.

October: Extremadura will have four consecutive days

Extremadura will have one of the most notable bridges of 2027 thanks to the transfer of the Assumption holiday to Monday, October 11. Since Tuesday the 12th will be a national holiday, workers with a Monday to Friday schedule will be able to enjoy four consecutive days of rest, from Saturday the 9th to Tuesday the 12th, without needing to request vacation.

In the rest of Spain, October 12 will fall on a Tuesday, which will allow for a four-day break if Monday the 11th is taken off. In the Basque Country, Thursday, October 7 will be a holiday for the anniversary of the first Government of Euskadi, also opening the possibility of a four-day bridge if Friday the 8th is available.

August: six communities move the Assumption to Monday the 16th

The August 15, 2027 will coincide with a Sunday, but six communities have decided to move the celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin to the following Monday. These are Andalusia, Aragón, Asturias, Canary Islands, Castilla y León, and the Community of Madrid, territories where a three-day weekend can be enjoyed, from Saturday the 14th to Monday the 16th of August.

Other communities have opted to maintain their own celebrations or move that rest to different dates. This is the case of Extremadura, which has placed the substitute holiday on October 11, just before National Day.

Other long weekends in 2027

Friday, January 1, and Monday, November 1, will be holidays throughout Spain, which will allow for two three-day weekends without the need to request vacation. In addition, Aragón and Castilla y León will have another three-day break with Friday, April 23, while Galicia will enjoy a similar one on Monday, May 17, Día das Letras Galegas.

The Community of Madrid, Galicia, Murcia, Navarra, and the Community of Valencia will also have a holiday on Friday, March 19, San José. In the Balearic Islands and Andalusia, Monday, March 1 will allow for an extended break from Saturday, February 27. Castilla-La Mancha presents another interesting combination: Thursday, May 27, will be Corpus Christi, and Monday, May 31, will celebrate the Day of the Community, so having Friday, May 28, as a vacation day would allow for five consecutive days off.

How many holidays correspond to workers and what happens with local days

The Spanish labor calendar is governed by Article 37.2 of the Workers' Statute, which establishes a general maximum of 14 paid and non-recoverable public holidays per year, of which two are local. Autonomous communities can replace certain national celebrations with their own and decide the transfer of some holidays that coincide with Sunday.

Therefore, the calendar published in the BOE does not necessarily include all the holidays that a worker will have in their municipality. The national and regional dates must be added to the two local holidays approved by each town hall, which may coincide with traditional events, patron saint festivals, or local celebrations.

In cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, or Zaragoza, municipal holidays can considerably modify the possibilities of enjoying long weekends. Additionally, the sector or company calendar may introduce particularities in the distribution of rest days, within the limits established by legislation and collective agreements.

In short, the labor calendar for 2027 offers several opportunities to plan getaways and vacations, especially during Holy Week, in August in certain communities, and during the December bridge. However, to know the exact days of rest, it will be necessary to take into account both the dates published in the BOE and the municipal holidays and the labor conditions of each worker.
