The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, reiterated this Friday his condemnation of the disturbances that occurred in A Coruña during this week, which he equated with "disturbances" recorded in different parts of Europe, a pattern in which he perceives "a strategy." In response, he launched a warning message: "Watch out for the justifiers and the lukewarm who stand aside."
These statements were made at the third 'Foro Ancares, the challenges of the Northwest,' organized by Diario de León and El Progreso, with the sponsorship of Banco de Sabadell, held in Ponferrada. The president of Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, also participated in the event.
Rueda said he feels "frankly concerned" about what happened in A Coruña and maintained that "it is easy to glimpse" that "there is a strategy," since, in his opinion, "the disturbances in the Herculian city resemble a lot" those in other European areas.
"Not only in the coincidence in time but in the aesthetics of those who are more violent in those disturbances. You can go to Milan, to Paris, or to A Coruña the other day. There is something organized there that should worry us a lot," he pointed out.
He also demanded "not to normalize" these episodes "as if it were a virus that must be passed and that will be cured" or "a wave that comes, explodes, and then, when it goes away, no one remembers it was there." "This is a strategy, and we must be very clear in saying that, in no way, do we want it, nor are we going to tolerate it," he emphasized.
Strong support for the Police and rejection of violence
During his speech, Rueda stated that he understands there is "discontent," but he emphasized that this "discontent" cannot justify "violent" behaviors. Therefore, he reiterated his "absolute support, without any fissure, for the security forces," against those who "insist on questioning and criminalizing them."
"And then, zero tolerance for these acts. If we are not firm from the beginning, all this will continue to advance because it is neither casual, nor will it be a matter of a minute, nor is it disorganized," Rueda concluded, also referring to the position expressed by BNG leaders regarding these events.
Fernández Mañueco calls for action against "violence"
For his part, Fernández Mañueco also condemned this Friday "the violence that is experienced in the streets" and urged the Administration of Justice to intervene in this situation.
"There is nothing that justifies a violent reaction like the one we are seeing," he emphasized, adding that this is "the sign of the times," which forces public administrations to work "from common sense" to address citizens' concerns and respond "from closeness" to each problem and worry.
The president of Castile and León has reiterated that violence cannot be accepted in any case, no matter how many concerns exist. "We suffered it throughout the early years of democracy, the first decades of democracy. And we won, we defeated it with the weapons of the Rule of Law. Of course, in this case, the only thing I can say is that action is taken against violence by the Administration of Justice," he concluded.
