This Sunday will be marked by meteorological instability in a large part of the north and east of Spain. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has warnings in seven autonomous communities for rain and storms, with an orange level in areas of Aragón and Catalonia.
The episode may leave up to 30 liters per square meter in one hour, as well as hail of more than two centimeters and very strong gusts of wind in some of the affected areas.
Aragón activates the orange warning from 14:00
In Aragón, the orange level begins at 14:00 hours in several areas. The warning affects the entire province of Huesca, as well as the Cinco Villas and the Ribera del Ebro, in Zaragoza, and the Bajo Aragón, in Teruel.
In these areas, rain and storms are expected that may leave up to 30 l/m² in one hour, accompanied by hail greater than two centimeters and very strong gusts of wind.
There is also a yellow warning in other areas of Zaragoza and Teruel due to the possibility of storms.
Catalonia raises the risk from 16:00
In Catalonia, the orange warning is activated at 16:00 hours in the Valle de Arán and the Lleida Pyrenees, where intense rain is expected.
The rest of the province of Lleida maintains yellow warnings for rain and storms, while there is also a risk in other areas of Catalonia, including the central depression of Tarragona.
Five communities at yellow level
In addition to Aragón and Catalonia, AEMET maintains yellow warnings in Castilla-La Mancha, Galicia, Navarra, Comunidad Valenciana, and País Vasco.
In Navarra, rain of up to 15 l/m² in one hour and storms are expected, while in Galicia the warnings affect different areas of A Coruña, Pontevedra, and Ourense.
In the Comunidad Valenciana, the yellow warning affects the northern interior of Valencia, with the possibility of rain of up to 20 l/m² in one hour, hail, and very strong gusts.
Risk of hail and strong wind
The main risk in the coming hours will be the appearance of rapidly evolving storms, capable of concentrating large amounts of rain in a short time and accompanied by hail and strong gusts of wind.
In light of this scenario, it is recommended to exercise extreme caution when traveling, avoid flood-prone areas, and stay away from waterways and ravines during storms.
The situation may evolve throughout the afternoon, so AEMET will update the warnings based on the evolution of the storms.
