The Madrid counselor of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, has highlighted the "profitability" that, in his opinion, the celebration of the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1 will bring to the Community of Madrid. He emphasized that the motor racing event will be concentrated in "one weekend," from September 11 to 13, so that the inconveniences that residents may suffer will be limited to a very short period.
"It is worth it for all of us to sacrifice a little," the counselor pointed out, insisting on "the profitability that the Community of Madrid and the city of Madrid will have with the celebration of that prize and especially how it will position itself globally." In his view, the economic impact and international image justifies the effort that will be asked of the neighbors during those days.
In statements made to the media in Quijorna, Rodrigo has expressed confidence that the City Council of Madrid will deploy "all the necessary means to try to minimize acoustically the noises that occur during that weekend." He emphasized that the City Council is working to ensure that the sound effect on residential areas is as low as possible.
His words come after the Stop Formula 1 Madrid Platform denounced the "scandalous" noise levels recorded during the F3 tests, where, according to their measurements, an average of 102.7 A-weighted decibels (dBA) would have been reached, with peaks of 107.7 and spikes of 109.1 dBA. The neighborhood collective warns that these figures may affect the well-being of those living in the vicinity of the circuit.
For his part, the delegate of Urbanism, Mobility and Environment, Borja Carabante, has already announced that the Madring circuit will have acoustic screens, natural barriers, and other technical solutions to mitigate noise during the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1. The goal is to reduce the sound impact on the residential areas near the route.
"The possibility of holding a Formula 1 Grand Prix here is important because it will put us Madrilenians and our region on the world stage and especially it will put us on the map for one weekend," Rodrigo reiterated, emphasizing that the event will be held only "during one weekend," from the 11th to the 13th.
Special mobility plan and reinforcement of public transport
In terms of transportation, the counselor has detailed that the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) already has "prepared and approved" a specific device to reinforce mobility towards the circuit, located in the vicinity of the Ifema Madrid Fairgrounds. He has highlighted "the proven experience" of the organization in planning the public transport network for "large events".
Rodrigo has insisted that "a very important mobility plan" has been designed and has encouraged attendees to travel by public transport. "We have a very important mobility plan and we urge all those Madrilenians or citizens who visit us, who are going to participate in this great global event, to do so, of course, with all the guarantees, with the Madrid public transport, which is one of the highest quality we currently have," he concluded.
